The standard halogen lights have served motorists well so far. However, these have serious drawbacks that were realized only once the High Intensity Discharge (HID) light kits were invented. The standard halogen lights actually have several shortcomings. Firstly, these have filaments inside that need to be heated white hot for illumination to result. This method of creating light is uneconomical from the point of view of excess consumption of current.  Further, filaments being fragile resulted in a severe limitation in the life enjoyed by these bulbs. But, the biggest problem was due to the fact that halogen light has a color temperature of only 2300k compared to that of daylight which is around 4300k.

The HID light kits have a color temperature from 4300k to 6000k and beyond, these give an illumination that is thrice as powerful while consuming 35% less current when compared to the halogen bulbs. The HID kits are smart to look at and on an average they last for ten years or 3000 hours while halogen bulbs have a life considerably less.

There are HID conversion kits for virtually every car or model. One can find out the pertinent conversion kit applicable for one’s car quite easily by referring to the bulb guide. These kits have a warranty for a year, two years or a lifetime depending upon your choice. The HID conversion kits are easy to install as well. Although there is an instructional DVD that you may buy, you will generally not need any external help to carry out the installation process by yourself.
